From the Blog
Before students can write analytically, they need to think dialogically; before they can craft a reasoned argument in prose, they need to test, defend, interrogate and articulate ideas through speech. In other words, they need oracy, and they need it taught with the same seriousness and deliberate attention that we bring to writing itself.
By around the age of twelve, most children are ready for their first taste of scientific vocabulary, a simple piece of research, and the discipline of expressing an idea precisely. This kind of English grows out of a child's own curiosity long before any exam board gets involved.
Digital platforms have opened up genuine opportunities for teenagers and adults, who can connect independently with resources, tutors and content suited to their level. Teaching very young learners, particularly those aged four to eight, is a different matter entirely.
What Gen Z and Alpha share, beneath all the dazzling and occasionally baffling terminology, is a deep instinct for play — a sheer delight in language as a living, shapeshifting, endlessly creative thing.
Taken together, the principles reflect a simple educational belief: English is both the subject being learned and the tool through which the learner is developed.
